ATP Statement On Decision To Ban Russian & Belarusian Players

Russian and Belarusian players will continue to be allowed to compete at ATP events under neutral flag

We strongly condemn Russia’s reprehensible invasion of Ukraine and stand in solidarity with the millions of innocent people affected by the ongoing war.

Our sport is proud to operate on the fundamental principles of merit and fairness, where players compete as individuals to earn their place in tournaments based on the ATP Rankings. We believe that today’s unilateral decision by Wimbledon and the LTA to exclude players from Russia and Belarus from this year’s British grass-court swing is unfair and has the potential to set a damaging precedent for the game. Discrimination based on nationality also constitutes a violation of our agreement with Wimbledon that states that player entry is based solely on ATP Rankings. Any course of action in response to this decision will now be assessed in consultation with our Board and Member councils.

It is important to stress that players from Russia and Belarus will continue to be allowed to compete at ATP events under a neutral flag, a position that has until now been shared across professional tennis. In parallel, we will continue our joint humanitarian support for Ukraine under Tennis Plays for Peace.

TA: UPDATE: MATCH CENTRE RATING DISPLAY

As the 2021/22 summer season of Tennis comes to a close, the rollout of the new Competitive Play Framework and transition to the UTR Rating for Australian tennis continues.

The following outlines key dates essential to ensuring a smooth transition to the 2022/23 summer season.

As of 31 March 2022, Match Centre users will notice a change to the ratings display. The change is an important step in moving towards the new Competitive Play Framework and transition to a UTR Rating which comes into full effect on 1 October 2022, prior to the commencement of the 2022/23 summer season.

What is the change to Match Centre?

  • The UTR Rating will replace the current TA Rating on team profiles, scorecards, results and upcoming matches.
  • Your TA Rating will remain visible on your player dashboard until the end of the 2022 winter season.
  • Your TA Rating will only be visible to you.

Who does the change in Match Centre affect?

  • All players, Team Captains, Team Managers and users of Match Centre.

When does the change to Match Centre come into play?

  • All changes to the Match Centre display will come into effect on 31 March 2022.

How is the transition to the updated UTR Rating display being managed?

  • Throughout the 2022 winter season players who log in to Match Centre will be able to view both the TA Rating and UTR Rating on their individual player dashboard.
  • At the commencement of the 2022/23 summer season players who log in to Match Centre will only be able to view their UTR Rating.

Why does the change to the rating display on Match Centre need to occur before the UTR Rating comes into full effect on 1 October?

  • The changes are an important step in ensuring all Match Centre users and players have activated their UTR Rating and are prepared for the commencement of the 2022/23 summer season.

How do I link my Tennis ID to my UTR Rating?

  • See TA site for more information about Competitive Play and UTR Ratings.

See you on the courts!
